Today we teach you how to set up your MOGA Android gaming controller to work with your favorite emulator. First things first, your gonna need to have bluetooth enabled and the MOGA Universal Driver app which you can download for free in the Google Play Store. We also recommend using a rooted device to get the most out of your controller! Check out the video below for the full how to!
Ever since the release of the T-Mobile G1, I’ve been an Android junkie the whole way, learning new things, checking out phones after phones, all this makes me want to share my knowledge with others. I am huge in the rooting community and love to install custom ROMs on my devices. After owning SEVERAL Android phones, I am currently ruling the world with my trusty HTC Sensation 4G by my side.
My occupation, sadly, does not involve Android. In fact, it doesn’t even come close. I am an Arborist (plant specialist) but love to write about the current Android news on the side. If you have any questions you can always contact us or hit me up on twitter! (@The_Android_Guy) or Google + http://gplus.to/TheAndroidGuy
The button mapping does not work for gameboid. During the gameboid section ur controller works but when u show us how to do it u go into the buttom mappings screen and say “there not mapped, thats weird, you get the point tho.” When you try and set it up the “press a button” messg stays on screen and doesnt recognize the moga button imputs. So if you could get back to me at my email with some more exact info on using the controller for gameboid, that would be great. Thank you.
Make sure that the in the notification bar, the moga icon is green, not grey, and that the device is connected properly. On the Gameboid menu go to settings -> Input Settings -> Key Mappings then click on the button you would like to select. (For example. The A Button hit A button on your remote)
One question. What phone do you have and is is rooted (jailbroken)?
I REALLY wanna get this controller to use for NES, SNES, Genesis Advance, etc. I don’t have my GSIII rooted nor do I want to. Will this conroller work for those emulators? I do not want to spend $50 and be dissapointed
Ok, having a problem getting apps other than the Moga app to recognize the controller, hoping you can help.
First off, I’m using a Galaxy s3, model number SCH-I535 (from Verizon), android version 4.1.1. Oh, and also, it’s not rooted, I don’t really want to right now.
I got my MOGA controller all synced up with my phone, and tried it out on the free pacman game they give you. It works perfect. What I really want to do, however, is use it with Gameboid.
I downloaded the Universal Driver App from Google Play and got that installed. I went to my Language and Input under Settings, and enabled MOGA IME. I then went to MOGA Driver Settings and selected MOGA IME under the Select IME option. Still under MOGA Driver Settings, I went to Select Device and selected BD&A.
By my understanding, that should be all I need to do to enable the controller to be used with Gameboid, aside from doing the keymapping in Gameboid itself. When I press a key to set I get the “Press a hardware key…” dialog box, but pressing the keys on the MOGA controller does absolutely nothing.
The little MOGA icon in the top left corner is green, and as I said earlier, it works with the MOGA games. I’ve tried it with Gameboid and even got gba.emu to try it on, no luck with either. Am I missing something here?
Hi i just got the moga controller and i followed all your steps but whe. i try to map the buttons on mupen n64 it wont let me i tried every single n64 app and i have a glaxy s 2 is it cuz im not rooted HELPPP
My apologies for taking so long to reply. If you watched the video you’ll notice that all the key map settings may not work correctly if you are not rooted. Sadly, I tried it myself with an unrooted device before I replied to you and I had no success with the Mupen64 emulator, however, I did get it to work using the N64oid app (assuming you wanted to play N64 games). I believe that the Mupen64 emulator isn’t supported yet for bluetooth controllers. You may want to try using a Wii Remote and see how that works out. Again, sorry for the bad news. If there is anything else we can do (or if you did figure it out) we would love to hear from you again

Yes it will work. However, the additional analog stick will not work if your phone is not rooted. Other than that it should work just fine! ^_^

Oh, forgot to mention, I do have “Use Input Method” enabled in Gameboid also.
Figured it out, phone has to be restarted for the controller to work with Gameboid!
Hey there Jroc!
Sorry for the late reply. I’m glad you got it to work! Let me know if it’s working good for you now. Anything else, please hit us up!
